For Artists

Fe29 was born out of a wish to help talented artists with a positive and open attitude, and a desire to make art their career.

The Art Lab provides a supportive and inspirational environment and a range of facilities and services to enable artists, working alongside and in collaboration with others, to develop their artistic skills and create quality artworks that will be professionally marketed.

Facilities

Situated on 5 acres of woodland in the Texas Hill country, the Fe29 Art Lab provides both an environment conducive to the creation of art, and an array of facilities to enable our artists to create the ambitious artworks that Fe29 specializes in.

The complex offers a range of workshop facilities including a new 30′ x 60′, metal framed workshop.

Artist accommodation is provided in a small detached guest house and in the main house. Additional free or low cost accommodation can be arranged with one of the many artists or businesses with whom Fe29 has established a mutually beneficial working relationship.

While artists are here to work, Fe29 makes sure they take time for relaxation. There are many places on the property, and within the hill country community of Wimberley where artists can find opportunities for relaxation and recreation.

For long term resident artists in need of a ‘city fix’, Wimberley is less than an hour from Austin and just over an hour from San Antonio.

Mentorship

Fe29 offers a range of mentorship services to our artists. We critique their work and work practices, and help them set goals and objectives for their career development. Fe29 assists with development of a plan, and provides ongoing support and guidance to help them in achievement of their goals.

For our collaborative projects, Fe29 works with the artists in defining project scope and selecting others to be involved in the artistic partnership. We assist with project planning and provide ongoing guidance, support, and encouragement to ensure a positive result for both the artists and the client.

Fe29 also provides guidance to its artists in other areas as required. Examples include costing, budgeting, and production of supporting documentation required for marketing purposes.

Collaboration

Selected artists have the opportunity to participate in Fe29 managed artistic partnerships through which they will receive support, encouragement and challenges that will result in development of their art, and lead to recognition and career advancement.

“As far as our first collaborative works are concerned, neither of us planned anything before we began. Rather it developed through the process of interaction and the inspiration that produces” Cecilia Orr

“Working on our exhibition, not only opened up new techniques and materials for me but strengthened my resolve to work in collaboration with other artists”. Julian Maher

“When asked to become a part of the collaborative experience at Fe29, I was thrilled. So much about writing is solitary. By contributing my ideas to projects that were being created by a group of artists from different fields, it felt like I was being lifted from the remote backcountry of my imagination and deposited into a brightly lit room.” Chris Cander

Presentation Services

Recognizing that framing and mounting are critical elements of any artwork, Fe29 encourages artists to consider this important component from the beginning, and works with them on the design and construction to ensure all works are presented as professionally as possible. By involving Fe29 artists with a range of skills, we can be creative in our treatment of these components.

Many artists cannot afford to have their works professionally photographed. By utilizing the skills of photographers working with Fe29, we can obtain high quality images of our artists’ works for marketing purposes.

Fe29 also looks to utilize the wide range of skills of our artists to provide creative options for other support services such as installation, graphic design and project management. This opens up further opportunities for our artists and provides supplemental income.

Marketing

Fe29 has gallery facilities in Wimberley where we can display artworks for sale, hold temporary exhibitions and meet with clients.

Fe29 does not just offer works for sale through the gallery, but actively markets our company, our artists and our works through a variety of means. We target niche markets to generate commission work for our artists on an ongoing basis, and are developing a program to raise the profile of our company and our artists in the market.

In addition to the collaborative and individual works created under the Fe29 umbrella, we also look to our artists for existing high quality artworks that we can present for sale or lease, offering opportunities to not only the artists and our company, but also our clients.

John drawbridge paintings

This exhibition brings together a collection of some of John Drawbridge’s most iconic early prints; a series of homage montages arranged by John’s son, Cameron; and a selection of watercolours discovered whilst sorting out his archive. The oil paintings on show compare John’s early abstract works from the 1960s with some of his last works (painted over the 3 years preceding his death, in 2005).
